River

The River Seph is the river of Bilsdale, running down that valley from Chop Gate to the River Rye. The Seph runs through a narrow band of level fields in the valley bottom, overlooked on both sides by some of the highest ground in the Moors,

The Seph is formed when Raisdale Beck and Bilsdale Beck join just to the south of Chop Gate, at the southern corner of the village car park.

Course

The Seph runs south down Bilsdale, joining the Rye at Seph Mouth, in the shadow of Newgate Bank
