This page will develop into a guide to the plants and animals of the Moors. The moors have more to offer than just heather and grouse! The area is internationally important for the merlin and golden plover, while the area includes a wide variety of habitats for plants and animals, including the high hearther moors, sheltered wooded valleys, the dramatic coastline and a variety of types of farmland.

Our first wildlife article in is on the Adder. Britain's only native poisonous snake can be found basking in the sun on the moors

Our second article looks at the Common Pheasant, one of Britain's most common game birds.

We start a look at the plants of the moor with a gallery of pictures of the heather, concentrating on the heather in flower, the heart of the purple moorland.
